And the spending of the U.S. government has grown hazardously dependent on offshore investors. Is the era of American dominance over? That is the question in this Oxford Union-style debate as panelists make their case. Speakers for the motion cite changes brought on by the financial crisis, the end of post-World War II illusions, and the lessons of history, while those against point to American intellectual leadership, the ongoing economic influence of the U.S., and the lack of ideological challengers.
